Logline:
A naïve farm boy hires on as a coal mine guard to save his family’s farm from foreclosure. When the cruelty there challenges him to turn in his badge, he inadvertently sets a movement in motion for freedom from oppression.
Summary:
During the Great Depression, a naïve farm boy sets out simply to save his family’s farm from foreclosure. Hired on to a lucrative job as a mine guard at Hardcastle Coal, he is partnered up with a committed company man with compromised principles. Both men, challenged by the cruel circumstances they are charged with enforcing, turn in their badges. This puts their lives in immediate jeopardy and forces evictions of revealed unionizing miners, causing the whole shanty town to bind together to rise up against their mine-owning oppressor, Kenton Hardcastle, a man willing to do anything to make a buck – often resulting in heartbreak all around.
